wondering if I should take a deal on a SP MK18/G250 reg? I see a lot of discussion on the MK25 but I can find nothing on the MK18. I know it is a discontinued model, therefore the good price.

It is "kind of" discontinued. It is no longer in the catalogs distributed to customers, but is still listed in the dealer catalogs. You can still get them from ScubaPro, you just have to request one.
The Mk18 is a high performance diaphram reg. It is a good choice for a first stage. The G250HP is a great 2nd stage, and breathes great.
If you can get a good deal on them, I would snap them up.

I don't have my schematics here in front of me but, I'm willing to bet they are fairly similiar. $230.00 sounds like a pretty good deal and you might be able to talk them down a bit.

It's a MK16 with a swivel.
