Hi!

I have the below setup, and when I asked my local dive shop for a service price, then instantly tried to make me boy a new and much better reg. I know my setup isn’t the newest one, bet is it that bad?

How much better is an new one for around €290

My current reg.
1:st stage Scubapro MK17
2:nd stage Scubapro R395
Octopus Scubapro R295

@MickeKling ,

The MK-17 is still a current regulator, I would not change it. The R395 and 295 are no longer sold by Scubapro but their replacements are not substantially different or better. The R series of regulators are an unbalanced "classic downstream design" second stage, they will not breath as well as a balanced design such as the S-360, 560, 600, 620, and G-260. Also your 295 can be converted to a 395 by adding the VIVA adjustment knob.

The math of the situation is this: Does the money gained selling your regulators plus the money saved on not servicing your old regulators equal 290 Euros? If so you may want to consider the dive shops offer. If they quote you a high price for service, then it may be wise to find a new shop for a second opinion.

What is the dive shop recommending you purchase?

If there is anything to upgrade is to buy an S560 second stage to use it as a primary and use the R395 for octopus. The R295 you can sell or upgrade it to an R395 and save it as a backup.

Look at all of you fancy "care about my buddy" divers with your fancy octo. R095 for life.

Thank you all.

So I can safely continue to use my reg. and maybe consider upgrading my 2:nd-stage to an balanced S-modell.

(They wanted my to buy an Aqua Lung AQL Core instead of my reg.)

I would suggest visiting another shop. Unfortunately some shops talk down some gear because it isn't a brand they stock or a product they are familiar with. The mk17 is one of the best first stages going around for all conditions. Your second stages are fine too, but balanced is nice and upgrading the primary won't cost too much if you really want to. I dive mk17 first stages on my twinset with g260 seconds and want for nothing else.

I suspected that this was the case.

Considering that I bought my reg., (used/second handed) complete with BCD & Dry suit hose, for just €150 it was a great deal :-)

Lol aqualung core.

They should just bring back the conshelf for public use.
