Is anyone using the Hydros mini D-ring plate with bungees to hold their SMB?

I know a lot of people clip to a lower D-ring, but was curious if anyone had success with this set up?

Search my posts for this. Simple replacement. Before and after. Better in every way.

That looks like a great upgrade of the BCD D-rings. Have you tried using the mini D-ring plate on the Hydro for other accessories (like shown in the video?)

Nope. I’m no fan of anything “mini”. I upgraded all the mini-rings to maxi. All those things are ways for SP to “maxi”mize profits.

I love my Hydros Pro, and the mini-D's work great for some attachments (Mako knife, for example), but did not work for my SMB (with or without a reel). The SMB came loose on multiple occasions, so back to hanging it off the lower D-ring.

Best

I found the minis too small, added some small carabiners to make them more useful. In the end I went to the travel harness and added an extra D rings to that.

I would never try to secure something with a bungi like they show in that video.

But you can use bungi to securely wrap the smb and the attached barrel clip into a tight secure bundle and then clip off to a an attachment point. I often like to have smb's secured lower than my chest d-ring, because they flop around and obscure my vision when moving around. I never used that BC, but I bet I could make that mini clip work, but I bet it is easier to take off than replace underwater, but that would be pretty rare anyway, I guess.

It's crazy that a $1k BCD designed without pockets doesn't include the $5 worth of parts required to carry the items that most divers need. If they can throw in the travel backpack, why not the accessory kit?

Love SP but really ....don't be so cheap.

I'm really glad to see that other systems have entered into the marketplace besides BCD's like this one that dictate where and how you place things. I remember before BP/W's when jackets and some back inflates dominated, you really didn't have much choice as to placement of D-rings etc. They placed things where they thought you needed them and you just went along with it. Some of those units didn't have enough attachment points and some had so many D-rings and gizmos it looked ridiculous and none seemed to be in the right places.
This Hydros thing just looks way too over engineered to the point that its way too complicated. I see them in my local dive shop and I still think they are way too gadgetized. Little tiny screws? why?
There is nothing simpler and more secure than just plain 2" webbing with a keeper and a D-ring that you can easily find and move around to where ever you need it/want it. I keep my Lift bag/ SMB clipped off on a butt D-ring that is attached to the back of my crotch strap. It's out of the way.
If I'm diving without a crotch strap it gets clipped off on a right side hip D-ring I placed on the waist strap and I can find it easily either way.
Nice HD stainless D-rings and high quality stainless bolt snaps, secure and industrial rugged.
I think these ready-to-go BC's are for people who have no imagination and can't do anything on their own.
