So back in the 90’s everything for diving was black. At least if you were cool. So if you’re Scubapro how do you outdo black? You do, <dramatic pause> Double Black.
Yes, yes, it has teal, gray, and red accents. But that doesn't stop you. Because you’re not just cool—you’re subzero.
For those keen observers it has the then latest and greatest 3rd generation Air2 and Scubapro safety whistle. And being Scubapro you can still get a 29 year old Air2 serviced. I know because I just had it done.
The BC has both belly and sternum straps and stout and comfortable carry handle.
The belly strap is a continuous web weight belt that threads through the back plate.
The cam band strap is metal. No plastic cam buckles when you're Double Black.
While the inflator hose does not have a pull dump, there is a pull dump on the right shoulder.
There's no kidney dump. Those who dive Double Black don't have a need for such things. You have perfect dive profiles and only need to dump air on ascent.
But if the color is a non-starter (what 90’s wannabe Meal Team 6 Gravy Seal could have teal on their kit?) the pockets can be easily removed via a pair of zippers on each.
But you’ll likely want to keep the pockets around as they are quite roomy. How roomy? You can easily fit 4 15 ounce cans of pull-top chili in the left pocket if you need an alternate inflation source for your drysuit.
On the right side pocket if you pull up the Velcro flap you are rewarded with a large drop down pocket.
Perfect for keeping your post dive libations safe from the surface crew.
Given this BC is 29 years old. I was fully expecting to see bubbles coming from every seam if not the BC body itself. But no, this is Scubapro and it's Double Black. So not a single stray bubble. Unfortunately it spent most of it's time playing Rip Van Winkle in a duffel bag in the back of a garage. So it's high time to get it back out on the water and get it wet. Maybe even take some chili with to have a snack while submerged.
