Can't say much on the second stage as I use 109/156/g250 variants only if using single hose in cold water.

Now, as to a first stage:

I'd take in in a heartbeat over a MK-25....

I won't argue with @rhwestfall , given the pic he posted, but I'd choose a sealed first stage like an XTX200 or Mk17, or choose a Poseidon Mk3 before I'd dive either a Mk2 or a Mk25 in those conditions.

I concur with @rsingler and will use MK-17 (or my Poseidons) as my primaries if diving single hose in cold environments (I still prefer a double hose), but the MK-2 is such a simple stage, it ends up being quite robust/tolerant. I have no hesitation for its use on a pony in these conditions. A "hot rod" like a MK-25 has a tendency to be problematic...

Years back, I dove MK-5/MK-10 stages here in the Great Lakes for a long time, and really had no problems with dives below the thermocline. I watched others with the "new and great" stages have problems...

The tune plays nearly as much of a role as design...
