If you are a problem sidemounter then I'm not sure what their reaction would be but I didn't ask for or need any extra help so they didn't seem to have any issue with me sidemounting.

My girlfriend, Colleen often does just that. She has had spine surgery, and walking with a tank is difficult.
I certainly see it as an option if needed.
Will Colleen be on the trip? I'm scheduled for a cervical laminoplasty August 1st (deferring until after the Invasion and my son's mid-July wedding). My surgeon has given his blessing for the trip, but he mentioned keeping heavy lifting to a minimum. I know I can remove my BCD and hand it up before getting back on the boat, but I've never had any experience with going into the water and having the DM hand me the BC. If that's an option, I might try it! Any words of wisdom on the surgery and aftermath would be most appreciated. PM me if that works for you. Thanks!

Design 1’s election was stolen … way better design IMHO

I had a Lumbar (L3-L4) disk massively blow out in Jan. '21, to the point where I could only be horizontal (not even anywhere close to sitting) and almost completely immobile. 2 rounds of shots into the spine got me back partially, but with continuing sciatica. I finally got my microdiscectomy (my understanding is there would likely be some reshaping of the lamina as well) in May of '21. I woke up and walked out with the nerve pain just plain gone. The incision wasn't too bad and I was diving at the beginning of July with caution. I don't know how much different the laminoplasty would be from a recovery, but the location and access may be more or less intrusive.

Depending on the boat setup, you might be able to have someone help you gear up while sitting on the gunwale or swim platform and then just roll in so you never actually carry weight.

1 word of wisdom, which I need to recall myself, is to NOT hang your lead on a belt, if you plan to be in the water at any point without your buoyancy!
I forgot this once when playing in a pool.
I prefer to use a weight belt,, to get the weight off of my back and shoulders, but using an integrated weight system is the only option if you will be in the water at ANY point without you bc!

I liked both.

Colleen will be on this trip, although she is not quite the avid diver that I, or my brother might be....
Often, all she really needs is for a DM to help her by lifting the weight of the tank, as she moves to the entry point.
She prefers to doff her gear at the ladder at the end of a dive, and have it lifted up for her.

Myself, by June 10 I am told I can put 100% of my weight on my new fused ankle.
I am sure I will adapt. I always have.
I may still need to wear a "boot", for climbing the ladder, but if so, I will purchase a waterproof ankle boot online in early June, that I can put on to climb back on board.
I will plan on using integrated weights for this trip, just in case doffing and donning my rig seems the best option.

Conversation only, answering direct questions.
I am NOT the one to be giving anyone diving tips and/or instructions.
I is only an amateur diver.

DXHI, I don't see you on the dive team list. If you're not going on the trip, why do you care? And since everyone's vote is posted here with their names, conspiracy theories don't work. But thanks for playing!
