Hi homer,

Do individual searches on scubatoys and leisurepro and you can read a lot on both. Especially LP tends to be divisive in terms of people advocating or opposing it. Also divesports.com is really good, i bought my reg from them.

Also, it has to be asked i think; why not a local dive shop? Have you checked and didn't like what they have? While you are by no means required to buy locally it would be a good way to create a diving circle. There are also many threads on buying online vs locally if you want to read on that.

Lastly, i should mention that there companies that could be called "Internet Direct" (at least that's what they are called in the audio/video area) like DSS or Oxycheq that have a strong following on this board, e.g. my BP/W is DSS. You could take that into consideration for later purchases.

Forgot to say: since this was your first post, you can introduce yourself in the appropriate forum and perhaps fill out your profile. People can give much more precise advice when they know a little bit about you and the diving that you want to do.

Welcome to the board!

Actually I went today to the local dive shop and bought a mask, snorkel and snorkeling fins for myself. I got the Aqualung Favola mask, Impulse 3 snorkel and a pair of deep see fins that are really comfortable. My only concern with the stuff I bought today is that it is of high quality.

I am not certified yet, though I intend on being by the time the next family dive trip comes along. Once I am I plan on buying more of my own gear. But that will probably be a year from now.

I was asking about good websites because my girlfriend, whom I'm going to Maui with in the first part of april, wants her own mask and snorkel both of which MUST be in pink. The dive shop that I went to today didnt have anything in pink.

Anyway, this is my first mask I've had since I was a kid. I really enjoy snorkeling and can only imagine how much better diving is. If you guys have any suggestions about gear or places to snorkel while I'm in Maui I would appreaciate the advice.

Thanks,
Preston

Preston:

Try the guidebook "Maui Revealed" for good, honest travel advice. Black Rock near Ka'anapali and Molokini (by boat) are two great snorkel spots.

Check out the Hawaii Ohana forum for more local advice.

Preston, I see your... predicament! :)

Well, for less significant stuff places like leisurepro are OK and they have a great selection. Personally i would never buy a reg from them but i've bought masks, fins, etc. Like i said do the search and you'll find more than you are willing to read probably.

I know that Tusa has a whole line of equipment in pink because i've seen the ads in the mags. Here's an example: http://www.divesports.com/mall/tusa_pkg_diveinpink.asp.

However, you'll have no way of knowing whether the mask fits her well but i'm sure that if you order from divesports they would refund a return. You know, you could start a new thread or maybe somehow rename this one to something like "looking for gear in pink, ladies please help." (Don't mean to be sexist but i bet there isn't one guy on this board with a pink mask!)

I'll second the vote for Scubatoys - great prices and even better people.

If/When you order from them, give them your Scubaboard member name. They offer a discount for Scubaboard members.

Thanks for everyones help. She actually just ordered the Tusa platina II snorkel and the splendive IV. I will def. keep those sites in mind as there are several accessories like a bag to carry what little equipment I have and possibly a dive knife (I know I'm not diving yet but I just have this fascination with dive knives. Thanks again.
