For anyone who knows a friend or loved one who is considering SCUBA but has not had any easy way to try it out with no committment...
This weekend, Jan 17 and 18, there will be a demo pool set up at the Health and Fitness Expo at the new Washington Convention Center. Here is the description from the website:
"You can take a dip in a pool set up specifically for scuba diving. All scuba suits and diving equipment will be provided at the expo. Guests can either bring a bathing suit to wear, or the wetsuit can be placed over underclothing. Participants can change their clothes in a changing room complete with hair dryers and can store their clothing in a bin in the changing room.
Scuba instruction is provided by local scuba shops and all instructors are certified by PADI (Professional Assoc. of Divers Intl.) and SSI (Scuba Schools Intl.). The ratio of instructors to participants is typically one-on-one. The minimum age is 10 years old with some flexibility for divers who are 8 or 9 years old, depending on the instructor ratio. The water depth is 4 feet. So bring your bathing suit and your sense of adventure! We'll see you at the Scuba Tour at the 2004 Health and Fitness Expo!"
Seems like a good opportunity for someone to check out the sport and see if they are intrigued. BTW, admission to the Expo is free.
