What was the version of events you heard from the person there and what led you to believe it was bs?

Only issue I have with Athens is the owner. IYKYK
Well, it turns out the victim wasn’t a nine year old…
Beginning with that misinformation makes me doubt that the guy and his partner swam over there and joined in on the rescue effort. There is some more specific information I’ll be keeping to myself out of respect for the parents who may be reading these threads.

Nope, still registered to Calvin.
Calvins son is running the place now. Calvin did retire. It's a family business I'm sure it's still registered under Calvins name tho. Not that it really matters. He's still doing a good job.Sounds like you have a personal grudge with this guy lol.

Depends on your perspective on registered sex offenders, but also he did cuss me out for daring to ask him to fill a tank that had a VE hydro. Enough of that though, let’s not get off topic.

Yeah let's get back on the initial topic. Don't really care to hear about someones record 25 years ago or personal grudge defaming a business. We're talking about scuba ranch incident here lol.

I dive predominantly at Scuba Ranch. Vis varies greatly throughout the year.

SR is my favorite local diving hole because of the aquatic life (perch, catfish, bass, carp, turtles, aquatic grasses, the occasional freshwater eel), and depth.

Anyone here a fan of Sheck Exley? He would say poor viz was not the failure point of this fatality.

And yes, the silence surrounding this tragic event is deafening :(

As far as I know, while Sheck was a high school teacher he was not primarily an OW instructor. I also think he wouldn't blame any environmental conditions (outside maybe a cave in) as a failure point, but rather underestimating the impact of environmental conditions, and not being properly prepared. I would say all those apply to this situation.

Couldn't be that the instructor is an LEO? Or that by some accounts there was an alleged lack of urgency in searching for her?

Exactly. Sheck differentiated between contributing factors and the actual failure point when conducting accident analysis. I've personally found that effective when sifting through the timeline of a dive accident.

I don't know who the instructor was. Being out there that day and the day after was sobering.
