My wife, from Argentina, is considering learning to dive. The problem is that her English is only fair and it may be difficult to understand some of the information in English. Is anyone aware of what Basic Open Water instructional material (Books, DVDs, etc.) are available in Spanish?

Scubautah...

My wife is from Mexico, and we just got certified last year. Our PADI instructor ordered the OW course in panish for her and it helped tremendously. The material in Spanish included the course book, the dive tables and the small instruction book that accompanies the dive tables. I did find a few technical details that were not identical to the English version of the book, so, be sure to go over the course with her (assumiing you know enough Spanish).

Good luck, and I hope you enjoy diving as much as we do.

Mucho gusto

Hi ScubaUtah
Any NAUI instructor can offer you textbook, workbook, tables and videos (I'm not sure if audio tapes also) in Spanish for your wife. The materials are a bit different from the english original, but it's nothing that may concern safety.
On the other hand, with either PADI or NAUI, she may have a relatively hard time with the excesivelly "caribbeanized spanish" found in both textbooks (translations made by cubans or puerto ricacans mostly), but that's something she will eventually get used to.

Nice diving to both of you!

How does one say Scuba Diving in Spanish. SUBA Zambullir ?

Your local shop should have the material in varios languages. But if you decide to come to puerto rico I can do your classes in spanish or english. take care, be well and never dive alone.
