We will be staying at the Presidente hotel in Cozumel. Their in house dive op is Scuba Du. I'd appreciate thoughts about using them - it sure would be convenient to just walk down the sand onto the boats.

I don't have any experience with Scuba Du, but just about any dive op on the island will pick you up at the hotel dock.

Good, safe operator with boats and rental gear that are in better than average shape. I last used them a couple years ago, while staying at El Presidente. The dives were a bit shorter than with some other operators as most of the time the entire group ascended together. Dive profiles were fairly conservative and the briefings were oriented toward occasional divers -- complete with reminders on how to inflate and deflate a BC.

I would pick Scuba-Du over most other large operators, such as AquaSafari, AquaWorld, Dive Paradise. If you want to go with a smaller dive operator, they will gladly pick you up, as El Presidente is on the way to most common dive sites, and is right at the south end of Paradise.

Jeff,
I'll be down at El Presidente for a week and diving with Scuba Du starting this Saturday. I'll try to give you some up to date info when I return.

If you are ANYTHING more than a beginner diver you will not enjoy the Coz experience IMO as much as you would if you used another another op that is recommended on the board. As said in earlier post, they are very conserative and hold hands. They have preset dive locations for every day of the week. They do not vary. Boats are nice but they are large and slow.

90% of the ops on the island will pick you up at Pres's dock. Did you get a package with the hotel or did you decide to dive with DU on your own? They do have a nice beach with some shore diving available to you but that benefit would not outway my decision not to use them again........oh, stayed there and dove with them 2 years ago. Nice hotel, just get ready to pay $5 for a Coke or Pepsi Light.

Have a great time.

Well, now you've got me wondering. But I guess I'm a pretty new diver and taking AOW with them so it might be OK.
