Ladies and Gentlemen,

A few years ago I posted the note below. I am back for a short visit and thought some of you newer members might like to see how this all started. Note the names and dates of the early Board members. And note that NetDoc was really not a Doc back then--in spite of his title. He was really a NetIntern. Most of us Old Timers still dive, but do not often show up on the Board. Of course, there are exceptions to that rule...

At any rate, happy diving--into history...

"Folks,

After a prolonged absence due to, well, just due to..., I decided it was time to come home and look around. My goodness, the NetDoc has transformed this once sleepy site into an incredibly valuable tool for all divers, experienced and inexperienced, adept and inept, cool and fool, old and new, far and few! Nice work, Doc!

Just for the fun of it, I thought some of you Board Denizens might like to see what the original cast looked like. Most are now off wandering the earth in different disguises, but a few remain. See if you can recognize those loyal, royal folks. And, speaking of "royal" the founders whose names appear first on the list of "Founding Fathers & Mothers" are King Neptune and Lady Diver. The King sorta kept watch on the Kingdom, but Lady Diver had the red pencil. So, if you dared to use an explitive and did not delete it, she was right there with her magical, digital, hypertal red pencil...and, whosh...transgression erased, warning issued, face all red, and, maybe even a "time out"!

Ladies and Gents,

A long time ago and far, far away, a lad named Warhammer was a member of this Board--Member Number 18--and he became famous for what was called "The Warhammer Maneuver". Here is that maneuver, captured in a YouTube video:

History like this should not be allowed to die...

I got here a few years later, against my better judgement as I'd always avoided computers - afraid the internet would consume me. Someone here told me how to copy and paste. Learning to do manual hyperlinks took me some time.

No doubt the board has changed. I remember welcoming every new member and reading every new post....these days I barely can keep up with the threads I am interested in...and I still have the same avitar....just does not seem right to change it...

Herman,

I changed my avatar to Cecil the Seasick Sea Serpent awhile back. He was a sock puppet on the Time for Beanie TV show in Southern California. That was in the 50's when we got our first TV. B&W with a 10" screen. My computer monitor these days is about 4 times larger and in color! At any rate, a seasick sea serpent seemed like a good thing to represent me in my scuba mode.

I remember the time when we all greeted newbies and celebrated things like their first non-quarry dive, etc. Now the list of folks logged in is longer than our original list of members and i cannot imagine keeping track of their successes.

Let's hope some of the other early members show up on this thread...it would be good to hear from them...as it is from you and Dandy Don!

Best.Thing.Ever.

There is no doubt in my mind, I will find myself needing to pull that maneuver one day.

I showed up sometime in 2002. I remember most of the names on the list, and the time when King Neptune and Lady Diver ran the board. A few of the names on your list are still around and posting, a few I haven't seen for years, and a few I can't recall at all.

Thanks for the history!

Ah, so you're still here, huh...?

MY EYES! I could have gone without watching that. Lol

I enjoyed the trip down memory lane. You can't call it history if you were there.
