Tasseled, Papuan or Poss's, that is my problem. The stonefish was photographed while snorkeling the house reef off Bobacha, Siladen island, Bunaken NP, N. Sulawesi, Indonesia, September 2015. 1 metre water depth.
Tasseled: According to Fishbase/Aquamaps, Siladen is out of the range. But are these maps accurate? Reef Fish ID Tropical Pacific (Allen et.al.) state Indonesia to be within the range. Outdated? Image: Humped snout - obscured but not obviously noticeable. Poss's also seems to have prominent skin tassels on the chin.
Papuan: More than 55 rows of lateral scales?
Poss's: My current favourite. The underbody appendages look very similar to those in Carlos Faria's image in Fishbase http://fishbase.sinica.edu.tw/tools/UploadPhoto/uploads/scorpaenopsispossi.jpg Eye cirri short to absent? How does one do a pectoral ray count?
