Hello divers!
My name is Vic, and I am about to receive my Rescue (PADI) certification. I am 20 years old and a Marine Biology student in Charleston, SC. I have been researching funding and scholarships for SCUBA/underwater careers and I have not had too much luck. Does anyone know of companies/schools/goverments that will sponser SCUBA education? I am expecially interested in work programs that will allow you to work while and after offering continued education? Any information will help, and I would love to tell you more about myself, while learning about anyone out there who could help me on my path.

Wow that's a big one ... You should have been pointed in the right direction by someone. I'll try to tell you what I've heard but don't take it as written in stone.

I don't know of any pay you to go to school to get in a career type deal except maybe Rolex is somewhere close. They pick a few students a year and help them along, but of cousre they are the best of the best.

I know if your going for a grant you need certain things.

1. you have to have the research that you want to do and why.
2. it can't be a i.e. that's cool to me, and I want to get paid to play deal
3. how will your research help - what will it accomplish
4. will there firm get any kind of recognition.
5. how long will it take appx
6. you better have to have your I's dotted and T's crossed it's not easy
7. has this been done before are is it new

Then you need to research who gives grants and be on your game when you approach them. But of course thats after you graduate.

Good luck and I hope you find someone that can point you in the right direction.
