If you are asking who trained him - he basically trained himself (and nearly killed himself a couple of times doing it!)
In 1975 he was the president of both the NSSCDS and NACD as well as the vice-chairman of the World Cave Diving Organization, the International Union of Speleology Cave Diving Commission.
Basically, with the help of a few others, he wrote the rulebooks.

oh so basically he probably just got certified on the basics then just progressed from there?

I think he got certified through the ymca and there wasnt any advanced training back then. His 1st dives after his open water training were cave dives. As Kim said he and a few others saw the need and created the training.

Actually that is correct - I just looked it up in the book! :wink: His instructor was Ken Brock.
