It's just a special that they run. Lot's of dive clubs go there then for the economy. IMHO , when you go to Cozumel in December and January there is the chance that you might be blown off the water three or four days. So you look for some economy, plus the water is about as cold as it will get.

There are obviously a number of reasons to go to Cozumel. In no particular order is 1) diving 2) escape from cold (December thru Feb) and 3 ) cheap (September) . I'am one of the few that trys to deal with all three.

O'yea, in January and February you might have as many as 13+ cruise boats in a day. (mid week) The only safe place is diving.

FA is closer to the bars. With 13 cruise boats in he can make many new friends. The good news is that most get back on the boat by 4 and the streets are then again safe. SCC is a couple hundred yards further then FA.

I don't like FA , but I won't wander off. Given a choice between SCC, FA and the Coral Princess, its SCC. IMHO

My wife and I will be there for three months this winter. When my friends are at SCC I might dive 4 or 5 times. Other wise once or twice a week. Must be something I do when not diving.

O'yea, half price for a non-diver is pretty cheap. If you are there for 7 nights, allow three days for diving, and fill in with shore dives or night dives or guarding your husband. That way the weather won't hurt. You can always add more.

adios don O

Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you've written; FA is Fiesta Americana, right? Fiesta Americana is miles away from SCC, not a couple of hundred yards, and it's farther (a lot farther) from town, not closer. Are you referring to another place? Plaza las Glorias, maybe?

You bet, 100 percent, realized that in the middle of the night. Never even been to FA. I know the taxis' in Cozumel are criminal, so I was thinking of where I walk. I might of done that in two or three other threads in the last couple of days. PLG not NA. I'am sitting here in the rain, maybe I'am narced.

thanks don O

Well, they're both pink... ;^)

FWIW, the vast majority of my dealings with Coz cabbies have been cordial and fair, with a few notable exceptions. Some of them when I am there (usually in May) are college kids working summer jobs, and the cab ride gets to be a mutual language lesson. From what I've heard about NYC cabbies, the Coz guys are wonderful by comparison.

Yep, all nice, all expensive and you can't get a bus to stop for you. For a week it might not be a big deal, but over a couple of months it gets old.

I've been badly spoiled by Mazatlan, on the left coast. Cheap busses and cabs that go anywhere.

I look out the window, this could be CZM , really raining. Back to checking airfare.

adios

Still, cabs on Coz are cheap compared to what they cost here in Austin for the same distance traveled. But you're right in assuming that I've not had to deal with it for more than a couple of weeks at a time, and for me it's no big deal.

Cheers,
