...Who certified this Epic Fail as a dive pro??

Who else?

If they had died I would not have felt sorry at all. Would have been a good thinning of the gene pool.
Hang on a mo there jim. It seems to me that there were three innocent potential "victims" in this situation. Ie the three divers being led by this clown. The way I read it they diddn't know he wasn't the "propper" DM for the dive.

But they were certified divers and should have known better than to enter an overhead like that.

Yea I hear ya . But as a recently certified OW diver you still have this trust that instructors/dm's wouldn't take you where you can't get out of.

I'm not sure why? If it directly contradicts everything you've just been taught on your OW course...and directly contradicts all of the Safe Diving Practices on the form you signed and agreed to abide to... then why?

At least everyone in Australia and New-Zealand is safe from him since he got banned from those countries: Banned from Australia - Golden Book Traveler

I noticed this too..a nice review of our detention centres, ironically I read this on the day a protest was being held about the detention centre level of comfort compared to how our aged pensioners are doing.

Real world... real world... there are a lot of people out there that are not only buddy dependent but are also dive master dependent. There are also a lot of governments that think that way also.

Because some dude with a DM patch told them it's OK... baa baa baa?

YOU say that and I 100% agree with you.

But Ive got the advantage over you of still remembering my first few dives as a "born again" diver.
In the real world the transition from trainee diver under instruction to confident to make your own decisions OW diver isn't instant.
IMO its a failing in the Padi system -Do two pool sessions and four half hour to 45 minute dives and you are suddenly a "licenced" diver.
-There ya go Our Jobs done -find a buddy and dive.
I bet the vast majority of new divers are still learning and trusting that others know what they are doing once under the water.
Looking at the OW training my kids have received I'm really tempted to hang L (P) plates from a learner driver car on em.

Again--NOT FOR A SECOND am I argueing that what you say isn't bang on correct.
