Anyone know if there is decent scalloping in S. Shore? If so, where are there known scallop beds. I have a buddy that is willing to take me diving for scallops out of Plymouth Harbor but not sure if there are any beds. I'm not expecting GPS coordinates but general area where beds are.

I've never been off the SS myself, although there are certainly some huge beds to be found. The guys at one of the LDS (North Atlantic Scuba in Marshfield) get them all the time.

Basically, you are looking for flat bottom w/ depth atleast 80-90' deep. Have your buddy go by some of the LDSs, they'll give you ball park areas. And don't forget to bring a lift bag as those scallop bags get heavy fast.

I get most of mine in the 45-60' range off Salem. Are they deeper on the South Shore?

P.S. North Atlantic's response to my asking a month ago : "They move around alot. You need to look at a chart and find potential spots" :D Riiiiiiight;)

It's my understanding that down here (and off Boston as well) they are found in deeper water than up North.

I've also hit beds in Salem Sound in 50-60' of water. In fact, I've even found a few off OGB (past the reef) in about 50' of water and I suspect if it weren't for the draggers we could actually have that as a shore diving scallop spot.

Again, I'd look for flat, deep spots.
