We are traveling to Sayulita in March for a mostly non-diving vacation. I am trying to decide whether it's worth it to bring some gear and book a dive boat for a day or two, and also trying to decide which operator to use and whether to book in advance. I will be traveling with my wife, who snorkels but does not dive.

I understand that there are a couple of operators with storefronts in Sayulita that have their boats in Puerto Vallarta and drive you there in a van. This would work out well for me because I will not have a car. Otherwise I would be taking the bus.

I read through a couple of older threads, not much there, sounds like the diving is OK but not great and conditions variable. All advice welcome.

I have dived all the sites in Banderas Bay over several years, including Los Arcos, the Marietas and El Morro. You are correct, they are OK, but not great. Visibility is 40' to 50', and there can be some cold currents at depth. El Morro, which is a big rock with a couple of sleeping sea lions, a dive-thru cave and occasionally a couple of sleeping sharks is probably the best. Vallarta Adventures does a trip there about twice a week. I was in PV for the month of February but did not dive. Been there, done that. Also the beaches as so-so. There can be a lot of hidden, sharp rocks in the surf.

Did you end up diving out of Sayulita, and what did you think? I am going to a beach resort in Sayulita in late April and am pondering my scuba vs. golf possibilities. My wife will hand out at the beach but beach is not my thing....
