The National Marine Life Center in Buzzards Bay would like to extend an open invitation to the New England Diving Community to join us as we honor Grammy-nominated recording artist Sophie B. Hawkins and Red Sox Pitching Legend Bill "The Spaceman" Lee at the 2008 Mermaid Ball on August 15th at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

The National Marine Life Center is a marine animal rehabilitation hospital, marine science facility and education center dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of stranded seals, sea turtles, dolphins porpoises and small whales.

If you're unfamiliar with the National Marine Life Center, please take a moment to watch this short video. YouTube - National Marine Life Center 2008 Mermaid Ball

In 2009 the National Marine Life Center will be leading a "Sea Turtle Expedition" to the Myan Riviera - including reef dives in Playa Del Carmen and Cozumel, and cenote dives in Tulum.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for the Mermaid Ball, and silent/live auction donations are welcomed. For more info or tickets, send me a PM or contact Julie Seligmann at (508)743-9888 or jseligmann@nmlc.org.

Thanks,

- Rob Brennan

Sounds like fun, but some of us will be diving Boston Harbor that weekend with the NELD Lovell's Island trip.

That's too bad, it looks like we'll have quite a few manufacturers providing donations for the auction portion of the evening including, caribbean trips, dive comps, tanks, camera/housing, dry suit, and more!! I recall last year that not everyone who hoped to was able to make the harbor trip. So perhaps picking up a dry suit for a steal, enjoying a great night on the shore of the Cape Cod Canal, and helping out a great organization can be the consulation for those who don't make it to Lovell's Island!!:D
