Body of man described as 'avid diver' found in northern Saskatchewan waters

Police have recovered the body of a man who disappeared while scuba diving in northern Saskatchewan.

RCMP say their underwater recovery team found the 49-year-old diver yesterday near Buffalo Narrows, about 545 kilometres north of Saskatoon.

They say the man -- who was an avid recreational diver -- had been working in the community at the time of his death.

He left July 3 from an area in a channel that runs between Peter Pond Lake and Churchill Lake, located on either side of Buffalo Narrows, but he failed to return.

Mounties worked with community members during their search.

The man's name will not be released and police say they do not believe there's any criminal connection to the death.
