Yes, I know the concept of ocean upwellings, the long sunny summer days, etc. etc. etc.....But, hasn't the viz along the Santa Barbara Coastline sucked for the last couple of years? I did two dives this weekend and experienced zero to eight feet of viz in a spot that I have “memories” of 10 to 15? Am I the only one experiencing day-after-day of murky, green viz? I’m beginning to feel like I’m diving in a ditch.

I'm just waiting for October. It seems to really clear up during the end of the year. But I know what you mean the kelp has not been the place to hang.

TroupH2O: I believe I saw you this weekend at Tajiguas? I was in the DUI Black CF200 drysuit doing a collection dive for the Cabrillo High School Aquarium. In any case, I'm looking forward to October too. I just think that something weird is going on with our currents the last few years

Yes, that was me. I would agree with you about the currents. There is a lot of talk about El Nino and I have assumed the the rapidly changing temperature are related.

Did you get any specimens for the aquarium?

Yeah, the aquarium had a list of what they wanted us to catch. We were able to catch most of what they wanted. Anyway, we had a lot of fun. Spearing a fish is difficult enough, catching a live one underwater with a net takes it to another level.....
