My wife and I are headed to our first trip to Cabo mid-May. We are booked to dive with East Cape Explorers for at least one day (Lars seems to be very accommodating and open about reservations.) It looks like we picked one of the least hospitable times of the year to visit but it's already booked and we plan to make it a great trip.

The dive shop is closed on Sundays so we're looking at driving up to Cabo Pulmo that day and getting a two tank trip and lunch. Any suggestions on which operator to use?

Also, since we're diving in the mornings we'd like to see some of the sights around town and the area so any direction on that or any particular restaurants would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

Gary

Just to be clear, Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo are different places. Cabo San Lucas is the town at the peninsula tip and San Jose del Cabo is the town closest to the airport where you will land.

When I do Cabo Pulmo dives, I prefer to book with my favorite dive shop in Cabo San Lucas, they arrange a van and the whole 9 yards. I personally prefer to not drive. If memory serves me, I do remember a small dive shack at Cabo Pulmo but cannot guarantee any services.

I am surprised the dive shop you have booked with is closed on Sunday.

We're flying into and staying in San Jose.
There seems to be several shops out of Cabo Pulmo. I was hoping someone could recommend one of them.

We dove with them for three days last November and were happy with them. The owner is Thierry Lannoy. He caters to small groups.

There isn't really that much to see besides the beach area where you board the dive boat. There is a beach a couple of miles south called Mermaid Beach but the road to it is sandy and it is very easy to get stuck if you are not driving a four-wheel drive vehicle.

I liked Caballero the best for meals.

It will probably take over two hours to drive from Cabo San Lucas, maybe half an hour less if driving from San Jose.
