You're going to have to go 2hrs down to Monterey for a dive boat. There's some shore diving up north in Mendocino, I think. But the majority of dives in Nor Cal take place in Monterey.

Head to Monterey which is South of San Fran. You are going to need a car.

The area is very touristy, and holds something for everyone. Including one of the most scenic places along the California coast, Point Lobos. Which happens to also be a great dive destination from shore. If you are planning on diving during the week, you could get a tour there, but on weekends it requires reservations, which are booked long in advance. There are plenty of commercial boats to choose from.

We will be boat diving in Mendocino County, with hopefully 80' of vis again

They are missing at least Double Down and Capt. Phil's RIB.

There are no bad dive boats in Monterey. They wouldn't last.

Do ask what their plans are. You wouldn't want to get on a tech charter if you are a newb, or
vice versa.

To continue the conversation, I'm going to be in San Francisco in mid July for a few days. Is there nothing closer to the city?
