I dive with a proplus 2 computer and I am looking at getting my GF, (my dive dive buddy as well) a new computer....My LDC has the proplus 2 with the quick disconnect for $550...which is a great deal, but my question is this...

We are taking our advance and plan on doing a number of deco dives this summer, is it best to have two different computers for comparison reasons...and go with the longest deco stop, or is having two of the same computers the right thing to do ?

my understating of deco is that you plan your dive, plus contingency plans using dedicated software or tables before your dive, write them down, and refer to them during the dive, with the computer in gage mode just showing time and depth .. what kind of training are you getting to be able to do deco dives with such a small number of dives under your belt?

Pretty sure you are kidding with this but just in case: advanced open water certification and 50 dives does not put you in a place where you should even be considering deco diving. AOW is not really very advanced and deco diving is in an entirely different arena. I didn't answer computer question but I am sure someone will.

Having two of the same computers would be fine. However I'd suggest against even thinking about a deco dive on a single tank. What happens if a 1st stage loses it? That leaves you sharing air with your GF, which means that you're now on her gear, with no redundancy at all, and no direct access to the surface.

When you lose direct access to the surface, the game chances, especially mentally. I've done a few dives here lately, where from the turning point in the dive, I cannot surface for at least 15-30 minutes, no matter what. I'm not going to attempt to judge your readiness on an internet forum, especially since your profile may be out dated, but I can assure you that at <50 dives, you may want to consider holding off on any dives that limit surface access.

I hope you miss used the term deco. Since AOW is a recreational cert. no deco training is offered. you shouldn't even consider deco diving without the proper training.

I've been diving that computer for some years now and have been very happy with them...to answer your question, you both need to be diving the SAME computer.....using different computers would be a pain in the azz....unless you enjoy arguing underwater about which computer to believe.

....also, based on the level of your question, you are obviously a new diver and not ready for 'deco-world' by a long shot....the Pro Plus II is really a recreational computer and not really intended for deco diving....however, sometimes I do put mine in 'lite' deco on single tank/single mix dives...no biggie...just be advised it's not a professional level deco computer.

All the above posters called it.

Riding out deco based solely on a computer is Darwinian at best.

Your computer isn't going to calculate your gas consumption and neither are you without appropriate training.

Don't buy another computer for your G/F. Get more training if you want to surpass NDL's. By your comments you aren't ready for the task as of yet.

:D You're really liking digging up the past, huh? :)

:rofl3:

Didn't even notice it! I was scanning the right hand column and it popped up.

Anyone know if he lived?

Go with the longest deco stop. That always works.

Long is good. Always works.
