Got my attention ... if it'd been yet another accolade in the title I'd have just said "yeah, I know" and kept going. As soon as I saw that title I came here prepared to take issue.

So yeah ... it got the job done.

Nice post ... very accurately reflects my own experiences with Salvo ...

I just had two issues with two separate pieces of gear. A bad check valve on a p valve, and a cracked plate that my goodman handle screws into. I sent a quick letter explaining the issues and simply asking for advice. I recieved an email back within a few hours with a tracking number. No questions asked......they just just replaced the parts and quickly. You got to love that service! A BIG THANKS TO SALVO

Another poster who only read the thread because of the title. I know about Salvo lights, even own a rebranded Salvo HID. But hearing stuff like this makes me very likely to buy a their products if I ever find myself in the market.

Heh, I read the title and was like "WTH??? I've only heard good things about Salvo and their customer service....not a single bad thing, ever!" So I read the post and was like "ahhh, you tricky guy, you! ;)"

As a small part of a successfull 54 year old company with the name R.C. Worst & Co., Inc. that uses the slogan "Expect the Best from Worst", I guess I wouldn't know beans about these things.

But you've potentially made my point with your example, otherwise your company's slogan would be "R.C. Worst & Co - We Suck!"

:D

Honestly, I don't think one thread is going to do Salvo any damage -- In fact, I'd be willing to be that ANYBODY who is the market for anything Salvo sells is going to open this thread for the same reason the rest of us did . . . because they have never, ever heard anything but good things about Salvo Diving.

Salvo's customer service is a throwback to the good old days, when people cared about the integrity and reputations of their businesses, and realized that word of mouth is darned good advertising. I've had fabulous experiences with them, including having them FedEx me a latch for my canister at their expense (despite the fact that I offered to pay for it) because I was leaving on a trip and needed the light faster than I could get it back to them to fix.

Actually, their business is sewage pumps, so they do suck! :D

This immediately got my attention. I'm in the market to get a HID light and it was the toss up between Halcyon and Salvo. I'm interested in the 21 watt 10 amp light. Halcyon wants about $1500 for their version and Salvo $1300.

This post made up my mind.... I'm not going to purchase Salvo because they suck, just kidden :)....

I'll be a Salvo owner very soon... Can hardly wait and yes I agree about the drysuit turn around time... I hate that wait but then I have an excuse to dive my wetsuit....

Mike...

Good choice - same light I dive. Though, I bought mine before finding out that they are a huge ripoff!

:D

Make sure to get the newer plate for the Goodman handle. The original plastic version cracks very easily when you tighten the screws.

There was a thread on DIR Explorers recently about the new 21w Halcyon lights. Someone over there posted this quick review -- obviously out of the water pictures don't tell us as much as we would like, but just from looking at it...I am partial to the Halcyon myself. ;)

Just remember that both products will work just fine, and both will be supported by their respective companies.

A few people asked my via PM to post my thoughts on my new 21W.

I had it at home with my old Salvo 21w for a few days before the Salvo went off to a good home. Bloody good light and I don't doubt it'll continue to give great service.

The image below was taken in the living room at Casa Del Str0ke with both lights side by side at a range of about 8 feet. The Halcyon is on the left, the Salvo on the right. The image is "undoctored". I think it shows quite clearly what a great job Halcyon have done with the same bulb and ballast.

The focus and beam pattern speaks for itself - but subjectively I would say that the Halcyon has a much bluer, more pentrating light and is subjectively about a third brighter.

The Salvo is about three years old - but had a new ballast and bulb earlier this year - so it's not a case of reduction of beam quality with age.

I'm delighted with the new Halcyon - the attention to detail with the design and manufacture is absolutely top notch - a "Halcyon worthy" product indeed - well done guys.
