I recently returned from a week on the Nekton Pilot in Belize. After doing 4 dives a day, to say that my hair was pretty salt-trashed is an understatement. About 2 months before our trip I went to a "party" at my spa where they were promoting hair products. One of the products claimed to remove salt from hair, so I bought it for our trip.

Here's the scoop....IT WORKED!! :D :D :D The product is called Phyto Plage and it's advertised as a moisturizing hair and body wash. It was unbelievable how I could use a SMALL dab of this stuff and it would lather in my hair and leave no giant snarls when rinsed out. I did buy their conditioner but realized quickly that any good conditioner would work once the salt was gone! :05:

Although it isn't cheap, I think it was worth every penny. Sometimes e-bay has it for about 1/2 of retail (which is how I got mine), but I'd pay full price to take it on a trip with repetitive diving.

Seeing as salt is water soluble, I don't see why the shampoo should matter for that. Good shampoo and conditioner to help with the general abuse from sun and everything makes sense, but salt removing sounds like marketing to me.
