Hi all

Some divers and I had a talk the other day about Safety STop, some of them experienced and some are new..However, some said that you have to do safety stop even if your dive was between 25-60 ft..

some said, you only make one when you had 100 ft dive, and I was with those guys..

99% of my dives doesnt go more than 50 or 55..so, do i have to make safety stop? what about those who dive within 25-35 ft?

I know not everyone goes by the book, but i need to know what is the right thing.:doctor:

:mean:

Since there is no perfect dive table or perfect dive computer, even if you do everything wihtin the parameter, there is no 100% garantee that you will not get DCS, I always do safety stop just to be on the safe side unless there is some significant reason that I can't stay the extra 3 minutes like I have absolutely no air left or a big mean shark is after me
I think it is not too much of an inconvenient and potentially can be life saving so why not!
If I dive shallower than 30ft, I tend to be a bit more lenient, especially if I spend a lot of time around 15-20ft or so. If I spend most of the time around 30ft, again, unless there is a reason that I need to get up right away, there is no good reason not to do it, especially on a multi day dive trips.
It might be overkill but afterall, I only have one body and I want to do many more dives yet :)

The Safety Stop is defenately recommended with any dive deeper than 10M...

Why take a high risk when you can easily minimize it? Besides, when you make a safety stop you enjoy 3 to five minutes more of SCUBA...! :)

so, what you are saying is that 10 Meter + do safety stop ,right? :)

well..i guess you it is worth it...hopfully i wont see a good fish to spea while am on my sfaety stop :):mean:

Ya zalameh... You can organize your catch during the safety stop... you know, count the number of fish you speared etc...

Safety Stops are good and definately recommended!

My current plan is to ascend really slowly all the way to the surface taking a full minute to ascend every 10 feet. It does wonders for bouyancy control and once I hit 10-20 feet, burn down the tanks.

How many people do you see who do a "safety stop" at 10-15 feet, count it down then pop somewhat "cork-like" to the surface when the three minutes are up. It is the the top ATM which has the greatest relative pressure change on your body. Take it slow, you came to dive, why rush to the surface those last few feet?

I do at least two...

one minute at half of my depth (if I go below 40ft/13m)

5 minutes at 15ft/5m. If I am diving tables I might reduce that to 3 minutes.

THEN... I take 1-2 minutes to make that last 15 ft. In fact I do it as slowly as humanly posible.

If I go below 90 ft then I take one minute per 10ft/3m interval starting at half of my depth with a full five minutes at 15ft/5m and my ultra slow ascent after that.

At my safety stops I have seen marlin, whale shark, bonito, turtles etc. etc. They are a dive within a dive! Enjoy them!

Take a look at one of the decompression software with gradient factor control deep stops or one that uses a "bubble"model like V-planner which uses VPR. Compare the ascent generated as compared to your tables. You may be really surprised. You might have lots of questions too but that's ok.

That sounds great, actually i think it was an ascent rate of 30 feet/min with a short pause after each 10 feet including minimum deco from 30 feet to the surface ( 1 min @30ft,20ft,10ft)

darn bwerb, where did you learn this stuff   :D
