http://www.scubal.com/content/index.php?proid=1047&catid=268&procatid=194 Scubal has a nicely made, oral inflate 4ft orange SMB for $12.00 - they are not the "garbage bag" quality of the plastic ones either, heavy nylon. I've been happy with the ones I've gotten from them.

DSS has spools http://www.deepseasupply.com/page13.html for $8 or $20 with 75ft of line and a SS double ender (good deal either way)

Charlie99 showed me his setup which is nice for an OW rig. 4ft SMB with 25ft of line wrapped around it, and a brass snap at the end. Just let it unravel at depth, inflate and let it go. very compact setup.

Just some ideas :)

Aloha, Tim

Hey, I pulled this photo for you the other day of a guy doing a nice safety stop position, with sausage line in hand. You may not be interested if you have seen it done many times, but maybe some other new diver....

I Like the large halcyon it is about 6" wide and 6' tall and doubles as a #50 lift bag and uses a bc inflator hose "non locking". They are a little expencive.

That one is awesome. I have that one and love it to death. Six of my buddies (including me) went drift diving this past weekend. We were in our own group so we surfaced after apart from the larger main group on the boat. Once we were up and saw that the captain saw us I simply turned it on its side and we all just sort of hung our arms over it and relaxed. Very nice float and it fits nicely in my MC pack.

By the way. I carry it in my MC pack (accordian fold), carry a DSS spool with 150 feet of cave line clipped with a double-ender to my read d-ring of the eclipse.

Hey, you don't happen to have a pic or any advice on how you fold that do you?
I just got the 6 footer and am trying to figure out how to fold it right to fit in the MC pack and not jab me in the back.

Hi all,

2 questions:

I am looking into buying a safety sausage. Any recommendation for brand and type? Should I buy one that orally inflates, inflates with regulator, etc.?

Recommendations for padded weight belts that accomodate the regular weights (the non-lead shot weights)?

Thanks!

On the safety sausage, I have 2 of the halcyon sausages and love them. They are more expensive but the quality is great. The nice thing about their closed bags is that you can oral inflate or use lp inflator hose or DS hose. They are the only ones I have used, so can't say much about the others, but the ones that kidspot recommended look good and a great price.

I agree...I have the same one HALCYON. They do cost more but you get what you pay for. When you need it you would pay anything for it.

It's not always the size of the safety sausage that counts.

Yeah, you've been telling her that for YEARS haven't you? :)

Here they are. Sorry I didn't get to it earlier. I also have two pics of how I moved my three lbs from my waist to the plate.

I just do a accordian fold starting from the top and down towards the valves. At the bottom I make sure the exhaust valve and fill valve fold to the outside and then tuck that side against the plate. They sort of fall into the channel on the backplate. I don't have any problem with them ever sticking in my back.
