What would be the average/standard SAC rate for a newbie diver..? (and how you calculate it) I'm guessing over time it should improve?
 
Lots of previous-discussion "Similar threads" listed below, which explain how to figure it. Want to be way safe? Plan on about one cubic feet per minute on the surface to start with (it'll probably be less though, maybe .8), then watch that improve to say about .5 cu ft/minute with experience. Lots of variables, with water temperature being one of the main ones.

You're in the UK? Maybe you use metric for tanks. We Yanks use cubic feet.

A new diver should not worry too much about their SAC. Concentrating on your skills is much more important. As you dive more, you trim gets better, you become more comfortable in the water and you gas usage will come down. Give it time.
