The water temp 2 weeks ago was around 80. It rained every day while we were there, mostly in the mornings and night it never affeccted us in any way. Not sure if there is much difference around the xmas timeframe.

One thing to keep in mind if this is your first trip. Because of the elevation differences between sea level and windwardside (i'm assuming that is where you're staying), there can be a considerable temp difference. The nights got pretty cool, if you're prone to be cold you'll probably need a jacket or sweater (my gf did). Between the cool air, the rain and the frogs around our cabin, it made for great sleeping.

A comment about your original question about the depth: The 4 pinnacles are deep dives, starting out between 80 and 100 feet, we did 3 of the 4 while we were there. We had a couple people who just hung on the line around 60', because the viz was good, they still had a pretty good show with the sharks. All the other dives could be done at pretty much any depth you choose.

What is the cost like on SABA? Food, Diving, lodging??

Looks like a great location.

Did you fly over or Ferry over from St. Marteen (sp?)?

Expensive is a realtive term so I'll give my experiences for your consideration:

It's very small so you don't have hundreds of choices of restaruants, we ate at a few of the more expensive places a lot. Brigadoon and Eco-lodge run around $70-$80 for dinner for 2, but they are very nice places. A large pizza was $12 and was some of the best pizza on an island I've had. A couple good size burgers and cokes were about 15 for lunch. Pop's place by the pier had $3.00 hotdogs, and 1.00 cokes.

My package for 7 nights, 5 days of diving was $1800 for 2 people. We stayed in a private cottage, with a new memory foam bed, good water pressure, full, well stocked kitchen, and 42" flat screen tv and internet access.

We took the Winair flight, it can be pretty "exciting" if you aren't much of a flier.

One tip, if you are bringing your own gear, watch your weight. Winair has a stated limit of 20kg for standard baggage. They add 10k if you have dive equipment, but not all their reps seem to know that, and you may have to remind them at the airport if they try to charge you extra.

Huge groupers yesterday on Shark Shoals, blacktip and 4 turtles on Diamond Rock and 2 Seahorses on Hotsprings, not a bad days diving I would say.
