I'm a Fish!
There seem to be a lot of posts recently (I'm partially to blame) about the s90/95, so I thought a single place for tips and tricks may be in order.. I know I'd like it.

So I finally got my s95 in and man is it fun to play with. Definitely different then my 50D and 5dMII :rofl3:. So My questions to all the other s90/95 owners out there is show my your tricks, what are your most successful settings, How do you prefer to shoot?

Does the underwater setting actually work well?
Whats your favorite setting for general shots underwater? macro?
What shortcuts do you like to use?
What shortcuts did you set the control ring to operate?
Whats the best/worst lesson you learned?

Post some pics with your settings!!!!

Thing is we started a Mega thread and it went on and on but people kept jumping ship and starting their own threads. :) What can we say?

I have posted tons of info on operation of the S90.

If you use RAW all of the "underwater this and that" and all that is made useless.

I don't use the underwater scene mode, if I am shooting jpeg I use the "fish" or "cloudy" directly accessed via the center Function button or I just fix it in PS. I also like the Vivid or Color Positive (slide film) settings.

Macro, don't know, don't care, yawn. I like wide and the wider the better-er.

I use the front ring for either shutter or aperture.

I figured as much (Per the mega thread) It happens a lot on forums especially camera based/oriented ones. I completely agree with the RAW thing and advise many to shoot jpg + Raw if your nervous about your images.

I like the idea of dedicating the front ring for shutter or aperture. Is there a way to change it I.E. Set it to shutter but if i hold down S then it will be set for aperture.

Is there a screen crop? ON my dsl's the eyepeice is usually a factor of the actual captured image (.95 on most of mine) Is this the same on the S series? when I view the image on the screen am I capturing 100% or am I actually capturing more/less then seen. I haven't taken the time to check yet and thought maybe you guys knew off the top of your head.

Adobe Lightroom is cheaper then Photoshop and has great raw processing as well as image manipulation tools. Its a great way to catalog and process images. Both items together ( lightroom & Photoshop) are a perfect couple. Lightroom allows you to process multiple images at the same time and a host of other great features, download the demo and give it a try

I know thats not specific to the S90/95 but A good tip regardless.

I am pretty sure what you see on the LCD is the area that is covered, 100%. Puffer I think brought this up but it does seem that if you process outside of the Canon software, the RAW images seem to cover more area and result in vignetting and more than the LCD coverage. I think that the sensor is rated at 1.17 size @ 10MP.

It seems as if the 95 is so close to the 90 that the only thing that is changing is the button placement on the back. Their have been other posts showing many of the things that fit on the DC35 housing also fit on the new DC38 housing. I'd invest in the 95. I don't want to be the final word on this but it appears that pulling the trigger on the 95 is ok.

I would not buy an S95 until FIX/Fisheye actually announce a housing for it since there is no way in Hades I would want an Ikelite generic box or the Canon water case, but that is just my opinion, realizing fully others will vary. N
