I´m buying regs and my choices are Zeagle DSV/ZX and MK17/S555 or G250V. My LDS is Scubapro dealer and another local LDS with whom I´ll be taking some courses in the near futures is Zeagle´s dealer.

I know that both are excellent regs and both have the features I´m looking for, but before I make my mind on any of this I would like to know the difference between the SP second stages S555 and G250V. For what I saw on the forum the G250V is the preferred choice, but why? what´s the diference?

Thanks a lot!

Alejandro

the G250V has a Divers adjustable inhalation effort the S555 doesnt.

G250V has improved the breathing performance by 50%. Working inhalation & exhalation are easier and stress free. Comparing the G250HP which required 1,29 Joules/Ltr with the new G250V requiring 0,68 J/Ltr means you spend less energy to breathe the same volume of air.

G250V is a full metal system- composed of a full metal inlet tube, metal orifice, metal knob plus a metal hose connector/heat exchanger

and it also has the VIVA knob, but all SP 2nd stages have that now.

The G250V would deffinetly be the better choice if u do cold/ice water diving. especially if its paired up with the MK17.

i personally own the MK17/G250V and i think that they are just phenominal.

Did you copy that out of the sales Boucher? :eyebrow:

The adjustment on the G250V allows to tune the reg before during and after each dive. It means your reg can always be tuned to its best. If it develops a slight free flow you can tune it out and continue to dive it although the breathing effort my increase.
A non adjustable reg will never really be tuned to its best ability as the tech will detune it to avoid free flows.

If you can afford it always go for a adjustable reg ( IMHO).

The metal air barrel will wear less than a plastic one. and it will be less prone to induce dry mouth.

If you can afford it always go for a reg with as much metal in it as possible. (IMHO)

Unless the 555 is heaps cheaper I would go for the G250V.
In fact if I couldnt afford the G250V I would get a original G250 or a 109.
But then I already own 2 G250's and 4 109s so I am a little biased.

Where did you come up with the 50%? What does that mean? How would you possibly know that the G250V is 50% better breathing than the S555, whatever that is supposed to mean?

My wife has the S555 on a 17 and loves it. I have several regs I switch out with from Legends, Atomics and TUSA and find the S555/17 as good as any of these . Dont know much about the statistics mentioned but I dive almost every day about 3 dives a day and I wouldnt hesitate to use the S555 at all and if its in your budget then so much the better.

The old G250 was so popular that ScubaPro brought it back as the G250V, the V for Vintage. It is an outstanding performance regulator and built solid with metal mechanism. The S555 is mostly all made out of some type of plastic.

Thanks a lot to all for the info. My wife has a Mk17/S555 setup and works really well, I like it a lot, but since I read all over the forum about the G250V I was wondering how much better would it be.

My LDS usually sells the MK17/S555 combo, I'll ask for a quotation for the G250V.

Thanks again!
