Not being a metallurgist, I was wondering if there are any issues with corrosion when attaching a s/s single tank adaptor or using s/s assembly bolts with an aluminum backplate?

Yes, you will get some oxidation of the aluminum where it contacts the SS. But it would take quite a while to become a problem. I have a 1/4 inch aluminum plate with SS screws threaded into it for about 8 years now. I can see the white oxidation but everything remains tight and solid. I soak the plate after each SW trip so maintainence is nothing out of the ordinary.

Would think that if you rinse and remove adapter (or just loosen bolts) that it would take for ever for any problem to occur.

I place my wing between the backplate and s/s single tank adaptor. I see no signs of oxidation. The only thing that touches is the bolts. May be alittle on the brass rings on my wing, nothing to cause any concern. I also break down my wing/backplate after every day of diving.

I do notice a pretty good amount of oxidation on my Al backplate (just where the SS washers touch it), the SS washers, and the SS rings on the wing. This is after diving everyday for a month straight without disassembling the rig. I still rinsed it everyday, I just rinsed it assembled. Other than being a PITA when doing a thorough post dive trip, pre-storage cleaning of the gear, it doesn't seem to cause any issues and the oxidation comes off pretty easy. I would imagine if you let it go unchecked for a while it could cause problems.

Thanks for the relies. Sounds like with thorough post dive cleaning, there shouldn't be much of an issue.

Thanks again
