My RX100 does not work with my YS01 strobe when in TTL mode. When I put the strobe in pre-flash mode if fires fine and I just need to adjust the manual settings to get the exposure right.
However, I am still fine tuning my ability to use manual flash settings and would really like to use it in TTL but my pictures have come out exceptionally dark. The FO cable isn;t the problem and I have deselected every mode in my camera (soft skin effect, red eye reduction) to try and get the camera synched with the TTL flash. No go. The flash is in fill mode for this.
With the strobe in TTL I have tried to use the camera in M as well as P mode the strobe keeps firing at a few miliseconds delay that results in a very dark exposure (or just blue).
Very disappointed. Have tried others YS01 strobes so it is not that. Has anyone had this problem? Are there any other settings I need to change in the RX100 to get this to work? Help!

It is firing on the second curtain, is there any way to fix this? Have I missed setting an obvious setting or is this a fault with the camera itself? I am gald to hear your YS01 strobes work well with your RX100 cardog, can I ask what settings you have it on? Does it work in manual mode with or without being set in pre-flash mode on the strobe?

Hi verity go into flash settings and make sure It is set to fill and not 'rear'
I have tested the YS-01 and works fine you set the rx100 to fill flash and the strobe to ttl
The rx100 does not have a manual flash mode so it will always send a Pre flash so you cannot use the YS-01 no Pre flash slave mode
I recommend to shoot in ttl at all times

Thanks for your reply interceptor 121.
The rx100 is set to fill mode and only seems to work with the strobe set on pre-flash mode.
When I take a picture with the camera pointed at the flash I only see a flash on screen when taken in pre-flash mode and otherwise a very dark picture when taken in TTl. It seems to me like it should be a very simple arrangement and that if it is not working then I should try to test my strobe with another camera and camera with a different strobe to see which is casuing the problem. Right now it seems to be the strobe.

I am open to any further ideas or advice or anything that makes me not want to throw the whole thing out the window!

If you want to try ttl the flash needs to point at the subject not at the camera
If you use that method with the strobe facing the camera the camera will pre-flash forward the flash will react and pre-flash back the camera will think there is no need of flash as the strobe pre-flash has come backstrong and lower the TTL output
You can test if the strobe fires using that techique but that is absolutely not the way to test TTL the reaction you are getting is normal
Set up the strobe on an arm and take real pictures as you would do underwater to check TTL

Thanks for your advice Interceptor! This method does work and I have managed to get it flashing in TTL. Cheers ( :

Sorry to bring this back from the depth....

Seems like the flash is firing on the second curtain
Why should that be a problem? Not that rear curtain sync is such a big deal underwater, but I'm curious why it would cause a problem.

Fascinating. I suppose it's the same issue for the RX100M2?

Yes the camera only works in ttl flash
See other thread with regards to electrical sync cable and flash exposure compensation recycle time
Rear curtain is not used underwater as it creates a wave moving effect
