This claim has been around for a long while, but I just caught this story:

http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/A...ow/2316128.cms

Scientific opinion is divided on these "ruins," and from what I've seen on several documentaries, I'm skeptical yet still trained to (try) and be open minded. Has anyone dived there and if so what were your perceptions (please explain)? I'm planning on taking a look for myself before I cash out of the land of the rising sun but am interested in others' thoughts (if you've been there or not). I thought this story was a real crack up. There is no new evidence, and yet the claims seem to be growing exponentially more grandiose. Questions, comments, observations?

We had quite a good discussion on this a while back, seems to have been eaten in the server crash though. There are a few threads, search on Yonaguni for them.. here is a trip report I did in Jan this year

From the discussion, the opinion of the guy on here who has dived most there (hundreds of times I believe, and helped make the Nat Geographic documentary) is that the ruins are predominanrly natural but modified by humans.

I have a couple hundred dives on the structures and surrounding areas, and have participated in documentaries with the History Channel, the Discovery Channel, NHK and a couple independants, also have had extensive discussions with Professor Kimura on the structures and have never heard these claims of castles and such... But I do agree with the Professor that the structures are man-modified. I will have to visit the university and have a chat with him again. There has been stone tools and small carving found in the area.

you can come down and join one of our tours this winter if you like.

I'll be in the Philippines this winter, but I'll give you a call in the next two years before I leave Japan for good. The documentary I saw (rather old) included some pretty bold claims and what seemed like massive speculation (ok, historians speculate). Who knows what happened in the editing room. I never heard about the tools/carvings. It's a goal for me to do some dives there and get my own look.
