Last week I enjoyed a somewhat relaxing 4 night cruise to the Bahamas aboard Royal Carribean's Majesty of the Seas. My son and I booked the Stuart's Cove dive trip in Nassau through the ship. We brought our own gear and rented tanks and weights only. There was only 12 divers on the trip, the first dive was a wall dive with the recommended depth of around 80 feet. If we had computers, we could dive at will. (The rental equipment had analog gauges) These were my son's first boat and ocean dives, and he absolutely loved it. The water was about 82* on the bottom and vis was at least 80 feet. The second dive was on the plane and treasure wreck featured in the movie Into the Blue, now we have to rent that. The best part was the sharks on the second dive. The dive site was near enough to the site they conduct shark feeds, that several sharks showed up to see what was cooking. There were plenty of jokes on board about the fact that they weren't being fed today.....yet. as well as who was going to be first in. I back rolled in midship and waited for my son to follow. There was a 6' shark almost immediately under him when he entered, but 25' below the surface. I was waiting to see if Justin would climb back on board. He didn't, but he did keep his hands tucked in his arm pits. Burned through his air a bit quicker, too! I counted four sharks during the second dive, with the 6 footer coming within 4-8 feet or so of me, two that looked about 4' long and the last a little smaller.
I have to admit that I wasn't expecting too much, booking through the cruise ship, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and highly recommend Stuarts Cove to divers travelling to the Bahamas. I will gladly dive with them again next time.
