The wreck is in fairly deep water in A. Bay. Has anyone actualy dove it from shore, or is it only accessible by boat? Another question would be.....is it open to divers?

Last question first... We have been diving it since the start of the season (I was on it with students last weekend) so yes it is open to divers. It does close from time-to-time, so checking is a good strategy... all local charter operators should be current on its status, FYI.

First question... there is considerable current and the St. Lawrence SeaWay between "shore" and the wreck site so huge lakers idle by on a regular basis and there is considerable commercial and consumer boat traffic in the area, so a diveboat is essential... especially since the usual entry-point is beside the USCG station!

I have several dozen dives on this wreck -- all on trimix of one flavor or another -- and have used it to train trimix candidates since the late 1990s, and would like to say that it is a tough dive that should not be taken lightly... I will also point out that as familiar as I am with this wreck and entry and exit from it, it is NOT a dive I would attempt on air, nor would I recommend it to anyone who does not have experience executing staged decompression dives in high current.

I see from your profile that you are a professional diver, which I take to mean you have a commercial rating in Ontario or are a military diver. With that in mind, my warnings are aimed at the general readership here rather than directly at you.

Steve - I moved here in Ontario about a year ago from the East Coast and just can't get enough of the awesome fresh water diving that the great lakes area has to offer. I have heard about this particular wreck some time ago and wanted to find out more information on it.

Thank you very much for taking the time to educate and also warn me. I agree that this dive should not be done on air. I have been doing staged decompression dives with mixed gases for over 20 years now and know better.

PM me and we'll exchange contact information. I can put you in touch with a coupel of great operators in the area.
