Not cave diving at this point. I have interest in heading down that path as I get more experience and training. Technical diving of some sort is on the radar as time and money allow.

I have a strong interest in cave diving, because of my dry caving experience. I also have a strong respect for the needed training and consequences. I have had many "learning" trips while caving. At least with those, there was not a drop dead time limit.

Actually Sheck et al experimented with 9' hoses and 5' too,and found that 7' was optimal. Most cave divers subscribe to minimalism ie if 2 back up lights are adequate,we don't carry 5;I guess the same would apply to hose length.

Heck, I have enough of a hard time trying to manage wrapping a 7 foot hose around my little torso...I couldn't imagine trying to wrap a 9 foot hose! :)

Generally, most people are happy with 7 feet....some people do choose to use a slightly longer hose (maybe 8 feet) if they are exceptionally large. However, even small people like me need to stick with the 7 foot hose, because while a 6 foot hose might wrap itself better around my torso, it would be too short to share air with my buddy while tandem in a tight cave passage.
