Rookie from the Gulf Coast just checkin with a question

Hey ya'll, just got back from a mission (Air Force) where we got to stay in St. Croix VI for a couple days. Was able to do the Discover Scuba deal and now I want more!

I have a couple options for certification in my area and just wanted to get some insight...

There's a Padi Certified Shop (or shop that cert's you thru Padi)

There's a SSI Certified Shop

There's a SDI Shop


The SDI guy seems to have the best deal but since I dont know squat about this I just wanted to make sure SDI was a legit cert and is accept everywhere. It seems like EVERYONE knows what Padi is, but a buddy of mine that is PADI and SSI cert'd wasnt completely familiar with SDI.

Thanks for ya'll help and input. I know alot of this is preference but I'm just concerned with going somewhere and not being able to dive because that location doesnt recognize my cert.

All of those and many more are recognized anywhere you'll want to dive, so that is not an issue. I would suggest looking at all of them and other options for quality of education, not price. Read my post here to find out exactly how to go about that.

It would help if you filled out your profile and we knew what part of the Gulf Coast that you are living. However, don't look at the certifying agency so much as the personality of the business. All the agencies you mentioned are leading edge and are recognized worldwide.

Choose the business that best meets your needs in location, compatibility with staff, and opportunity for growth as a diver. Do not look for the cheapest price but rather look at what you will get for your money in the long run.

We know most of the ops along the Panhandle so let us know where you are and perhaps we can offer better advice.
