I like the idea of a gate that you can lock behind you to keep others out. Right up until the time you realize that you lost the key.
Or there is a lever to unlock inside the gate. But then when it malfunctions ....

We had some dry cavers in a gated cave up here stuck overnight when the key broke off in the lock.
