Update from the Boston Globe:
No vote yet on Rockport alcohol sales
September 13, 2004
ROCKPORT, Mass. -- A proposal to allow alcohol sales in the town of Rockport never made it to a vote Monday night.
The issue was not one of the agenda items decided at Monday's town meeting, but is expected to be put before town residents at one of two more meetings this month.
The town has been alcohol-free for most of the past 148 years, except for a brief period after Prohibition, and is one of 17 dry communities in Massachusetts.
The measure would allow alcohol sales in restaurants, inns and function rooms. If it passes, selectmen would then submit a home-rule petition to the state Legislature. If that passes both houses of the Legislature and is signed by Gov. Mitt Romney, the town would vote again on the matter in April.
