My friend Chris and i head up for Rockport in the morning where he has his secret spot where he likes to look for bugs, the place was incredible the giants rocks at the entry point where just breath taking, the parking wasn't too bad, but the hike was quite an expereince since we have to carry our gear up and down hill, crossing the woods.

We enter the water at 0911hrs for the first dive, the bottom was cover with kelp close to shore, but as we move on everything changed to rockswe dropped down to about 40', the water temp was 45F the bottom time was 47 minutes. we started the look for bugs, but just to find out it was not many legal size bugs in the area, so we decide to get some crabs and flounders, at the end of this dive we end up with two lobsters, 10 crabs and a flounder or two i can't recall, but what i liked the best was The view, the pink colores rocks, green sea urchins, two huge and i mean huge sea ravens, one striped bass as well as a sculpin i'm more a charter diver, so for me to spot all this life from shore in such a shallow dive felt great.

For the second dive we entered the water at 1045hrs, this time we dove in the oposite direction, this time the bottom was less rocky with more sand we went down to 43'. We found some bigger crabs, so we took a couple more, just enought for dinner we didn't want to bring home more than we can eat for dinner that night, then chris got a couple more big flounders, which by the way where everywhere, but again we knew we had just the right amount, we could bring more and freze it, but then what is the point to get fresh sea food, we surface after 35 minutes and the water temp was 46F, i can't wait for July i'm sure is going to be a great place to find big bugs. :coffee:

I almost forget to tell you, viz was great as well 15'+ for the second dive i left my torch on land.

Happy dives to everyone.

Sounds like you had a great dive. How did you know underwater if the fluke were big enough? I have a really tough time doing it.

Chris have his spare mark, and kind of calculates the size by comparing the mark with the fish and if he has any doubt about it he won't touch it, anyway, we won't touch anything small, even if it is legal we like to take the really big bugs and fish, for me is better to come back home with two really big fishes than 6 small ones, cleaning time reduce dramaticlly this way. and i like to think that that small fish is going to grow and when reach the size will end up in my catch bag.

How many charters will let you get in the water at 4:30am??[/QUOTE]

Not many!

You should be thinking in taking one charter down here, give it a shot, i did it, you shoud be next.
