Hello I am new to the board and to scuba diving, just did my advanced class and dives last weekend. We are traveling (for my 1st scuba trip) to Roatan on in Jan. We have booked ourselves with Anthony's keys resort and was wondering if anyone has been there recently and can offer some info on dives and resort qualities. Most of the reviews I find from googling are from 2005 or so.

I am very excited to continue to get more certifications! I am looking forward to working towards my weck diver and rescue diver certs. next! Thank you for your time.

You posted in the Mexico board.

Would have more success on the Bay Islands forum - in the Central America section

Just a suggestion.

Ok now you're in the Bay Islands forum. Love the thread title. :D

I've not stayed there but many have with frequent posts. Try :search: this forum for Anthony since some will use the apostrophe and some won't to find threads that mention the resort. You can do that from the top of this Bay Islands forum, or you can use Advanced Search to check for the word in titles only.

V-board software will not run searches for words less than 4 letters but you can use the special tool to also search for *AKR* to get more threads with references.

After you get tired of reading, list any unanswered questions in a new thread, more descriptive title, and we do want to help.

See the trip report I just submitted in the Bay Islands forum.

LOL, thank you! This site is very large and somewhat confusing the first time, thank you for the help.

AKR is linked with the cruise ships so you will not be alone. jan. has up to 5 cruise ships that dock on the island on some days. you might be ok with that, but if you want to dive on some of the more secluded sights, i would check out Tropical Island Divers. they are on the east end and you will be surprised to be the only ones diving this area. make sure you dive Morat Wall.

Yeah, AKR does have divers from the cruise ships, but its a totally seperate program from the program when you stay there. They have a large fleet of boats, including two 48 footers that they use for the cruise ships.

If you are staying there, you will be assigned a much smaller boat with the same Divemaster for the week. Whereas when I dove there from a cruise ship, we were on one of the larger boats with 24 divers and 3 DMS in the water. The cruise ship program is on a seperate schedule.

There are other reasons to consider diving other parts of the island, but I don't think the cruise ship divers would be it.

You will love AKR. We spent a week there and enjoyed every minute of it. Would go again without question. AKR is a well run resort. I am definitely a fan. There are lots of trip reports on this board. There are also a lot of reviews on AKR at tripadvisor.com. If you haven't already, get a key superior room. I think it is worth it, they are air conditioned. The food is good, not gourmet but it is good and there is always plenty of it. Be sure to do the dolphin snorkel it is fun to be sure. Take an afternoon or evening and get a cab and go to West End for dinner and shopping for trinkets and gifts. Try a monkey la la and Salva Vida. Dive, relax and have fun.

Jimmy Roatan: I heard that the east end of the island didn't have much "good" diving. That the best places to dive were on the west end. I originally looked into "The reef house", as we were looking for something less "Disneyland" and more diver oriented. But everyone else we talked to steered us away from being that far east on the island.

Georoc01: The cruise ships was a big concern for us. One of the reasons I hesitated on booking with AKR. But it is good to know they accomodate their patrons and keep them seperate.

I have the feeling this will be the 1st of many trips out there. We will use this trip as a learning experience! Thank you all for your input! It means a great deal to me! I will be sure to post when we get back. Thanks again!

Holly
