Actually, you can get from Houston to Roatan to Utila in one day without going through the mainland. Atlantic Airlines has an afternoon flight that connects, at least on Saturdays anyway. We get about 85% of our guests through Roatan these days. There's also Roatan Air, a charter service that's been running several flights on any given Saturday. If you want more info, PM me.

Roatan is an island of many varying possibilities for vacationers.

+ Do you want to dive-dive-dive... logging 25 in one week? Or...

+ Do you want a couple of dives a day, or maybe skip a day?

+ Do you want to pick a different restaurant every night? Or...

+ Are you happier getting dinner quickly so you can get back to diving?

+ Do you want to dance the night away at noisy bars? Or...

+ Is your idea of "night life" a flashlight and a tank of air?

+ Do you prefer your accomodations to be simple and sufficient? Or....

+ Do you want cable tv in your room?

The choices on Roatan all depend upon you as a vacationer. Roatan has not yet reached the league of some other vacation islands, where there are so many things to do topside that diving could take second place. You had better have an interest in diving (of some intensity) before committing to spend a week in Roatan.

So, how do you describe your expectations for a week in paradise?

Does Deep Blue have a beach? I'm going with my non-diving wife and two kids. Currently I'm leaning more towards Roatan because I can't seem to find any resort in Utila with a nice beach.

Deep Blue Resort has a beach, just along from Laguna Beach Resort. Deep Blue Divers does not. On the whole, Laguna Beach has a better beach and better boats although you'll get better leads and better whalesharking with Deep Blue Resort. Costs a bit more though. Probably worth it if you're in it for the diving, but if you're coming down with someone who wants serious beach time, go to Laguna Beach.
