Breakfast at Ruby’s

At the southern end of the West End lies a nice little resort with a dark secret: fruit smoothies that defy Newton’s law of universal gravitation. They come in many flavors from mango to ginger. They rise inches above the top of the glass. They are mighty tasty. Breakfast isn't bad either.

Dive Report: Canyon Reef (?)

AOW morning deep dive with Native Son’s. Starting in the shallows you work your way through a canyon swim through to the exit at 110 ft. Got to be careful as the drop off is visually deceiving and you could find yourself at excess depth quickly. We didn’t stay at depth long, and ascended gradually up a nearby wall. Fun experience, though the sea life wasn’t as great as at other sites. One surprise: we found a good amount of surge even at 110 ft. I had never experienced surge at such depth before. An excellent dive for refining techniques.

Dive Report: Moonlight

Went with CCTree’s for my last dive. Worked our way out to the wall and down to 70 ft. We worked our way along the wall a ways then back to shallow reef. A great last dive. Spotted three separate turtles and observed a great range of marine life. Then, at 20 ft. with 800 psi in my tank, I looked over to my right and who was cruising along but a spotted eagle ray! The DM trainee and I got to swim along with it for a ways. The ray had a 6-8 ft wingspan and such smooth waving motions – pure elegance. Half our group had the pleasure of sighting it. The DM trainee told me later that it was the highlight of her time on Roatan. I believe it.

Dinner at Rotisserie Chicken Place

Good food at great prices. Try the chicken burrito or the ¼ chicken with sides.

Shark Dive Report

My friends wanted to finish their trip with the shark dive on the south side of the island. I have personal reservations about chummed shark dives so I sat this one out.

CCTree arranged the car ride over to the other side where our group met up with divers from other shops. My friends reported a well run operation with a good amount of pre-dive instructions. They were told to enter negative and descend to the sandy bottom. Food in buckets were then brought down and handled by the DM's.

I gave them my digital camera - which I ensured was positively buoyant - and 3 minutes of instruction on how to calibrate white balances. Here are their photos:

Dinner at Mavis and Dixies

They managed our 12 person party very well. Speedy good humored service. Fish was OK. Portions could have been bigger. Tall tales of the shark dive lasted late into the night. As did the promises by all to return to return to this crazy island.

So ends the report....Cheers, Oddsnends

Could you explain in more detail what RoatanMan's suggestion was for bag tags?

Sure. For each bag you create 6 waterproof tags. 3 A tags and 3 B tags:

On the A tags you place:
Name
Home address and phone number
Itinerary to destination (flight numbers, flight times, and airport codes)
Your hotel's name, address, and phone number
Time period you will be there.

On the B tags you place:
Name
Home address and phone number
Return itinerary

Place the A tags on different spots of the outside of your luggage. Keep the B tags in your bag. At the hotel replace the A tags with the B tags.

RoatanMan, Inc. promises to refund all lost baggage if you follow this method! ;D
