only 595 photos in 22 dives? Were you having camera problems or a painful cramp in your shutter finger?

I'll shoot 250 photos during a 2 tank dive.......~125 per dive on 1 gig chips with fresh chip and batteries swapped out during the surface interval.

Digital is free film. Shoot tons of pictures as you'll only show off 2-3 out of 10 if you're lucky.

but i really wanted to relax on some dives and not have to worry about taking pictures
u know what i mean

I dive with Inn of Last Resort now, exclusively, tho I don't need to stay there any longer because we have our own little development closeby. They are nice folks and take good care of their divers. I get bit on their dock, and in their boats -- I get bit on EVERYONE's dock and boat, it seems! It's part of Roatan, unfortunately - unless the resort is agressively spraying.

We're now having our gardener doing regular spraying the grounds of our development and on our beach (near Inn of Last Resort, around the east point), and the bugs seem to be tamed down a lot. Gibson Point Villas. www.GibsonPointVillas.com

For Bite Prevention: I do a morning rubdown of exposed areas with insect repellant mixed with hand lotion (or if you can stand the smell, Melaluca Oil in lotion works too) -- the repellant spreads better when blended with a lotion, and I think the repelling effect lasts longer.

For Bite Treatment (anti-itch): Then if I somehow do still get bit (usually because I forgot to rubdown or reapply after I get out of the water...) I apply a mixture of hand lotion (cheap baby lotion works best) and BenGay or similar muscle rub ointment. (approx. 10 part lotion to 1 part BenGay - I just shake it together in the lotion bottle.) I've discovered that it's the camphor and menthol in SARNA that works so well to stop itching -- and this homemade cream is a whole lot cheaper. If I have a really stubborn itchy spot, I just apply the BenGay-type ointment (camphor plus menthol is the key) directly to the bite. The menthol and camphor seem to trick the brain with their cooling action - and the itching just disappears! Some of the newer muscle-rub ointments don't have both of those ingredients -- but BiMart's generic Muscle Rub does. And it's cheaper. Lasts a long time!! Here's to itch-free Roatan!!

Bay Island Beach Resort has TEQUILA DOWNS, a wonderful buffet/fundraiser every Thursday night -- it's an event to not miss! The meal is very reasonably priced for the quality and quantity of food ($15) - and it includes free shots of Tequila just prior to the races. The ethnic Garifuna dance that precedes the Tequila shots is wonderful. The races are Hermit Crabs -- 3 for $10 -- proceeds go to support the local schools (which are SO impoverished -- no American could believe without seeing!!) The races are a 50-50 pot, (but they'll break your legs if you try to keep your 50%, ha ha). My hubby and I won 2 out of the 3 weeks we were there in January -- go figure. The Crab Races are raising $400 to $500 per week for schools -- and Cam, one of the resort's managers, is seeing that it gets where it'll be used best. We've worked with Cam and Peggy's Clinic for some time (we are Heart for Hope - www.HeartForHope.org) - and these are 2 organizations on the island that we feel merit our personal and foundation attention and contributions. Great fun, great music, great dancing, great company! Take a jacket and your bug spray (tho they furnish bug spray too, in their open-air restaurant). Have fun!

Going down in May and I'n already stocking up. Went to Bass Pro Shops and got the 98% Deet. I use it during hunting season here in Ga. and the skeeters stay away.Plus it does not smell
