Hello Everyone,
Headed to Roatan in a few weeks and going with a group of nine friends. Ive been there twice and absolutely love it, but I have not ventured much further than West Bay and West End. Half of us are divers and that leaves the dilemma of finding a few things to do topside. Ive spent all my time there in the water and topside activities have really only consisted of an afternoon nap in a hammock and Sundowners in the evening. Any suggestions on a few things to do "anywhere" on the island and maybe some off the beaten path restaurants to visit for we will have a vehicle for a few days. Thanks for the information.
Cheers, Sharkbait

lol....really not that much, although the East End is different......Rent a car & go to Paya Bay-www.payabay.com(with a nice restraurant etc & even some good diving)e North East end...On the way, you can stop @ the Jelly Farm....There's also Jonesville(on the southeast side-almost across from Paya Bay) but other than renting a car & visiting that end, not much....

Coxen Hole is just what it sounds like, a hole...lol...There's French Harbor, but it's not much........I've been 24 times to Roatan & only do the diving there...

There is the shark dive on the south side right after the airport, A MUST DIVE if you haven't done it(2 Italians run it) & Mary's PLace a very good dive on the south side too......

Looks like the west end is your best bet though..good luck, get back with me if I can help out any......love talking about Roatan......

Edit, (this won't help the non-divers) but diving Barbaretta(east end) & Pigeon caye is very good diving...be sure & catch the Odeyssey(right in front of our house there) Wreck too..good luck........

Hmmm...I'm not sure I'd want to do the shark dive if my name was iamsharkbait! My husband (a nondiver) and I spent nearly 2 weeks on Roatán last summer and, in addition to snorkeling and the usual topside fare (hammock and a good book) he fly fished his brains out. We enjoyed visiting villages along the north shore and the hiking is wonderful in the Carambola Reserve which starts in Sandy Bay. Here's a link to some other activities: http://bayislandsdiver.com/Other Activities.htm

Mainland Honduras is fabulous; let me know if you have an interest in outdoor activities around La Ceiba or in Copán. Happy trails!

Canopy Zipline Tour. It's a blast!

WOE...there is fly fishing on Roatan????? We live on a catch & release trout stream in the NC mountains. Had no idea that about Roatan, please tell me more. Would also love to hear about the La Ceiba & Copan area.

We will be in Copan April 28, 29, 30 then we go to La Ceiba May 1, 2 ,3. After that we will be in Roatan until 5-13. My wife loves to snorkel, but doesn't dive. We will need to find some other activities that we can do together AND that she can safely do by herself.

Thanks
Roger

iamsharkbait...sorry for hijacking your thread, I only have one more question.

Does anyone know if I can rent a salt water fly rod? My saltwater rod is on my boat that is a 7 hour drive away! All we have with us now are a #2/3 & a #4.1

Thanks
Roger
