I have a 2/1mm full suit, is that enough for Roatan in early March or should I go with 3mm full?
Your profile say's you have 100 - 199 dives, Have they all been in the same place with same equipment?, Are these all trainin dives with little experience on your own where someone always told you what was best? Sorry to seem harsh but isn't it time after a hundred or so dives to start making equipment decisions based on the dive rather than asking what you should or shouldn't do? By this time one would think you could ask what temps are and make an informed decision. You do not even say where you dove and were comfortable in. If my wife replied she might tell you a 3/5 suit, but thats for multiple dives a day, If I replied while thinking about when I do one dive for a couple hours at my house, I use a two mill jumpsuit. Some folks in 80 gegree want nothing, some wear 5 mil or so and even hoods depending on number of dives, How can you expect others to know what your cold tolerance is, how may dives you will do, and so forth? Next thing folks will be comming on here and asking what their air consumption will be.

Not a bad answer above, but your real question should have been, "What water temps should I expect on Roatan during early March?"

Expect 79-82°, maybe as high as 84° on the South side.

The rest, as RTBDiver mentioned above is wholly dependent upon your personal history divined from your log book. Roatan offers diving opportunities that range from 2 a day up to 5x a day. How does your body respond to multiple sequential diving?

The weather also determines your recovery during surface intervals, just as the character and quality of the boats. An un-covered small dory will sap your recovery more than a covered, more stable craft. At this time of year, you can hope for drier weather and a bit warmer days, as compared to the October>February time frame that will have just passed.

My wife wears a 7/5, I wear swim trunks, then maybe a Polarfleece at most. Everyone is different, you must decide what is right for you due to prior experience.

I don't believe I saw anywhere that said "could you rag on me please for asking a pretty simple question"! Relax man.....I have 250 dives and I would ask about a place I have never been. Besides, what one person would wear can vary from what someone else would wear.

I just came back from there and the water temps were 77-79 degrees. I was very comfy in a 3 mil. If you plan on doing multiple dives a day I would suggest a 3 ml but that is just MHO.

I prefer a 3mm full. To be frank, even in the summer, I often wear a 3mm full. I don't like feeling cold.

EXACTLY, Even in your defense of the question you point out that asking what to where is simply an opinion and varies amongst people. Kind of silly to suggest any type of Millage after two have explained already and the OP should have just asked what temps were rather than what to wear, Kind of like asking what you should wear to Fantasy Fest or Mardi Gras,

You yourself, even after having it all explained post defending the silliness and not simply asking what temps were and then write

Besides, what one person would wear can vary from what someone else would wear.

Then why the he!! did youtell someone that asked what to bring about your millage? and not simply what temps to expect?

BTW,
Anyone know how much weight I should tell the divemaster I need?

I dove the west end 9 days ago, 2 dives and used a bathing suit and rash gaurd. I'm used to bottom temps in the mid 50's though. I had never dove the warm waters of the Carribean. I found the shop I booked with had all the answers that I needed because of my lack of "local knoldge". And as an aside, I would find out what shops RTB DIVER and RoatanMan are affiliated with and stay clear of them. There are plenty of great dive shops available without the attitude!

Several things.......I do hundreds of dives a year on Roatan & Utila. I do fine with the following exposure protection: Tropical booties, 1mm full and a 3/5 hooded vest. You may throw in a 2mm beanie just in case. This equipment gives me four options right away......bathing suit; hooded vest; 1mm full with beanie; or 1 mm full with 3/5 hooded vest. If your 2/1 full is not too compressed from previous dives, then it will do fine along with the others.. Have a great experience whatever you do!!

Everybody is different. Just got done with a week of diving off of Roatan, found water temps of 82° reported from both South and North/West zones. I spent the week in my bathing suit and a t-shirt.

There is no answer other than: 82°
