Good afternoon. We have a trip planned for June 28th through July 9th. My wife and I just cannot make a final decision on where to stay. We have narrowed it down to 3-4 properties but don't want to commit until we see them. Our plan is to show up with one night reserved someplace and then go see the different places. Good idea? Are there usually vacancies at this time of year? Depending on which place it is, it seems this is either Low, Mid, or High Season so it is hard to gauge whether most places will have vacancies. Going to a 2.5 to "3rd" world location without reservations is a little outside our box so I wanted to throw it out there and get some opinions. Also, since my wife won't be doing as much diving as I will be, is the beach at West End Village good for "laying out"? And the final question, can someone describe or compare how noisy West End Village really is?

West End is can be pretty noisy at one end on a friday and saturday night, but at the other end it is pretty quiet.
The Seagrape, Lands E nd, Posada las Orquedias end is the quiet part. Once you get past the main crossroad were the main road comes into West End you are in the busier part, but as i say even this is really only a problem on Friday and Saturday, and even then the word Village is the correct description. There is ONE really noisy bar (Fosters), the sound travels from it because it is out over the water.

I really liked Half Moon Bay Cabins next to Seagrape on the quiter side of West End. Great snorkeling and a private place to get sun. Reasonable prices as well.
Not sure why you would take that chance and/or have to deal with the hassle of moving your luggage and dive gear around. If you wife wants a nice beach find something on West bay.
Bananarama, Island pearl, Mayan Princess, <--- very nice , Morgans and they all have dive ops and you can probably get a deal if you book a package that includes diving. The beach there is as nice as you'll find anywhere in the world. Make sure you take some deet as the sand flies can be tough. Check out trip advisor and you can see pics and get an idea of the layout.

That is a busy time of year. Every year it seems to get busier! It may be worth reserving. I would also agre that if laying out is a priority the beach at West Bay is much nicer than West End.

We just got back from Roatan a week ago. Stayed at Fosters in West Bay. We had a treehouse right on the water over the boardwalk. Nice quiet place with a good restaurant and nice beach. Thursday is lobster night $9.95 great.

Thanks for the feedback and apologies for the delay in responding. I have been out of town. Scubamork: Are there other nearby restaraunts etc? Would you recommend the single or duplex cabana, from what you could tell? They are all right on the beach correct? We are going to go ahead and make the reservations, the price can't be beat. The Island Pearl would be $1800.

I stay at Posada Arcos Iris, right behind the Argentinian Grille. Ther eis a nice beach right across the street, and another one about one block down. The hotel is very quiet, but not quite as quiet or remote as Seagrape and other properties at that end of town. Its also a short stumble from the "world famous" (LOL) Sundowner beach bar.

The duplex cabana's were just off the beach 50 yards or so from the water. We were in the sky cabana over the water. It was a good deal. There was a another good restaurant up the beach but service was island time. Las Rocas and Bite on the beach is right next door but we didn't try them. Pizza place up the beach was good too. Ate at Lobster Pot and a new white place on the water in West End both were excellent. $3 per person water taxi during the day $5 taxi ride back at night.
